Gardening
has always been a great past time for us here at Prescher-Farm. Learning what to plant with others (companion planting), to prevent insects and deceases or to in-hence their flavor, is very interesting. We are proud of our irises this year. The beauty and smell throughout the neighborhood were spectacular this year.
Gardening in raised beds is a great idea to allow earlier planting and easier harvesting time. Our garden is divided into boxes for the ease and care as well as the service. Planting can be done without the thought of using rows to get in and around the plants. Without rows you can plant more in a 4x4 foot area. The soil does not get compact from walking on it. We placed a section of panel fence that was cut down to fit the top of our box's to keep our cats from using them as litter box's. This works great! It also helps in dividing the sections evenly. This is also great for older persons... not having to stoop as far to weed or harvest. Insect control is much easier as well. Especially if your practicing natural controls instead of chemicals. You can pick off some insects or enter planting of marigolds, petunias or herbs as a natural control.
Our Garden Guide is a general planning guide for planting and harvesting flowers, herbs and vegetables. Informative to our area in Central Kansas, USA. It also covers some basic care information on plants grown here on Prescher Farm.
The Companion Planting page is very informative. Enjoy your garden more by using herbs, flowers and vegetables to help control pest's, without chemicals. Sprays and other concoctions may be found here of interest to the gardener.
